THE LET’S GET REAL FILM CAMPAIGN

In East Africa, entrenched social norms and cultural taboos have long silenced conversations about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The Let’s Get Real Film Campaign is changing that. By leveraging the power of film, we are breaking the silence, challenging misinformation, and fostering open, honest, fear-free and stigma-free discussions on SRHR. Through our work with the Get Reel Films Series, we are creating safe spaces for communities to engage in critical conversations, confront harmful practices, and get information to better improve their lives.

OUR KEY IMPACT AREAS

Encouraging Open Dialogue & Challenging Negative Narratives

Cultural and social barriers have historically restricted discussions around SRHR, leading to stigma and a lack of access to essential services. Through screenings and facilitated discussions, we are dismantling these barriers, empowering individuals to openly engage in conversations that challenge taboos and misinformation.

Enhancing Access to Psychosocial Support

Understanding the emotional weight of our films, we have partnered with four organizations and nine psychologists to provide immediate psychosocial support at all screenings. Our commitment is to ensure that individuals who need help can access it in a safe and confidential manner.

Providing Accurate SRHR Information

In an era of widespread misinformation, especially on social media, our campaign prioritizes evidence-based information. Through expert panels, fact-checked content, and direct engagement with SRHR professionals, we equip audiences with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

Humanizing SRHR Issues

Personal stories have the power to shift perceptions and inspire change. By centering lived experiences, we amplify the voices of those affected by SRHR injustices, fostering empathy and encouraging action at both individual and policy levels.
